Welcome!

It is my wish to blog my thoughts on beer…from breweries to homebrewers to beer enthusiasts.

Denver is about the closest place I can think of to “beer Mecca” in the United States, and as a citizen of this fine city, it’s my responsibility to keep up with the local news and brews. I do a fair amount of traveling, too, and so love to compare, contrast, and share beer trends from around the USA and the world. I might like to digress and talk about my travels too, but it’s hard for me to ignore beer for too long.

Thank you for your interest! Keep checking for brew news and reviews!

Great American Beer festival – sold out in less than 15 minutes!

40,000+ tickets for this year’s Great American Beer Festival were GONE within a few minutes of public sale this August 2nd. I’ve been going for 6 years now (this October will be year 7) and they’ve never sold out anywhere near this quickly! They sold out in one week last year, but back in 2006 you could still buy tickets the day of the fest. in 2007 they only sold out the last week before the festival. Each year it’s been earlier and earlier! I fear that next year, the general public won’t even get a crack at tickets. One may have to be a member of the American Homebrewers Association just to get in!

I’m happy to say I’ve got my tickets and I will be there Thursday night and Saturday during the day!!!

And the midyear numbers are in from the Brewers Association

http://www.brewersassociation.org/pages/media/press-releases/show?title=brewers-association-reports-2012-mid-year-growth-for-u-s-craft-brewers

According to the 2012 midyear report, total brewery count hits a 125-year high! We haven’t had so many breweries in the USA since pre-prohibition!

The article states that “Dollar sales were up 14 percent in the first half of 2012, while volume of craft brewed beer sold jumped 12 percent during that same time period.:

The growth is easy to spot here in Denver, with new breweries opening this year including River North, Hogshead, and Trve Brewing to name just a few. It is estimated that a new brewery opens every day of the year in the USA on average.

What an exciting time to be a connoisseur! Cheers!
